John Duval, Plexus SGM, Ensamblaje  2013

Description

John Duval, Plexus SGM, Ensamblaje (Shiraz/ Garnacha/ Mouvedre)

John Duval ‘Plexus Red’ is a Rhone style blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre that expresses the wide spectrum of red fruit flavours typical of this blend, providing a seamless balance and long finish. A low percentage of new oak adds complexity rather than dominate the berry fruit.

Traditional, low intervention winemaking techniques are employed with Plexus, allowing the wine to be approachable in its youth, but also have great potential for improvement in the bottle under good cellaring conditions.

Colour: Vibrant, deep crimson purple

Nose: Fragrant spicy nose, showing an array of red fruits and subtle oak

Palate: Flavoursome compote of red and black fruits combined with a variety of spices. Ripe, fine tannins and good concentration provide structure, length and a seamless balance.

The fruit for Plexus is sourced from the Barossa Valley including the Tanunda, Marananga, Light Pass, Ebenezer & Krondorf districts. Yields average 2 – 21/2  t/acre, on vvarious, soil types including; sandy loan over clay & red brown earth over clay.

The winemaking technique used includes fermentation with submerged cap and small

open stainless steel fermenters.

100% barrel maturated for 15 months, with a small percentage of new fine grain French oak hogsheads (300 litre barrels); with the balance 3-6 year old barrels.

Some Shiraz finished fermentation in new French oak.
