Luis Felipe Edwards, LFE 100, Single Vineyard, Maule valley,
Carignan-CIEN is a hidden treasure from Chile, a gift from our past. The locals from Maule Valley assure that the Carignan vines located in the town of Cauquenes are centenarians, inspiring the name CIEN, which means 100 in Spanish. According to experts, these vines are at least 70 years old, but nobody can say for certain the exact age. Planted in dry soil, where the vine is forced to search for underground water, with original rootstock, and head trained, they produce grapes with maximum fruit concentration and excellent terroir expression and juice that is rich in color, acid, and fruit flavors. The grapes are carefully hand harvested during the mild Chilean autumn, and after a slow and dedicated fermentation and careful aging in oak barrels, are converted to a complex and powerful wine, rich in colors and flavors.
TASTING NOTES
This wine displays an intense ruby color. On the nose it presents pleasant notes of cherries, blackberries, violets and raspberries, with hints of chocolate that blend perfectly with the notes of oak from the barrel aging. On the palate, this wine is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a persistent finish.
